Anti-dumping investigation launched on pasta
On 18 September 2020, the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (“ITAC”) initiated an anti-dumping investigation into alleged dumping of pasta. The pasta is being imported from Egypt, Latvia, Lithuania and Turkey.
Local South African Customs Union (“SACU”) producers, the Bolux Group, Namib Mills, Pioneer Foods and Tiger Brands, allege that the pasta is dumped in the SACU and is causing material injury to the local industry. The prima facie dumping margins that were calculated are, in almost all instances, very high and if imposed would possibly prevent importation. These dumping margins are:
Country | Dumping Margin |
Egypt | 43.27% |
Latvia | 68.41% |
Lithuania | 2.45% |
Turkey | 367.25% |
Interested parties have until 17 October 2020 to submit information to ITAC either in support of or in opposition to the investigation.
